Summary
The Bank of America Foundation is committed to creating meaningful change in the communities it serves through philanthropic efforts, associate volunteerism, community development activities and investing, support of arts and culture programming and environmental initiatives.
In 2016, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will issue three programs in the following focus areas:
Workforce Development and Education - focuses on helping underserved young adults and adults succeed academically, develop and hone job skills, learn better money habits, and obtain and keep livable wage jobs. There are two main thrusts to this area:
- Connecting Youth to Employment: High School and College matriculation and graduation, skills development and job training, first-time work experience, better money habits, mentoring, and services as a pathway to employment.
- Investing in the Workforce: Community and Vocational College opportunities, better money habits, supporting social enterprise and small business.
Housing: Community Development - focuses on affordable housing, neighborhood preservation, community revitalization initiatives, as well as the delivery of integrated services connecting individuals and families with financial education tools, resources and benefits to achieve their financial goals.
Basic Needs- focuses on providing access to critical supplies and services to individuals, children and families. There are three areas of interests within this area:
- Hunger Relief: feeding the hungry through local food banks, soup kitchens, and school related nutrition programs; and food access through addressing good deserts, agricultural sustainability, and access to fresh foods.
- Services for the Homeless: temporary shelter, transitional housing, permanent supportive housing.
- Benefits Access and Referrals: One-stops, day centers, family resource centers to provide access to benefits and support resources and financial education/coaching to develop better money habits

Funds are not provided for:
- Organizations that deny service to a potential client or beneficiary on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, veteran, or disability status;
- Individuals, including those seeking scholarships or fellowship assistance;
- Political, labor, fraternal organizations, or civic clubs;
- Religious organizations (for example, churches and synagogues). Some secular community service programs such as soup kitchens, shelters for the homeless, and job banks are eligible, even when sponsored by religious groups;
- Individual pre-K-12 schools (public or private);
- Sports, athletic events, or athletic programs;
- Travel-related events, including student trips or tours;
- Development or production of books, films, videos, or television programs; or
- Memorial campaigns

Deadline Details
Applications for the Jobs: Workforce Development and Education program are accepted between January 19, 2016 to February 12, 2016. A similar submission window is anticipated annually.
Applications for the Community Development program must be submitted between April 19, 2016 and May 8, 2016. A similar submission window is anticipated annually.
Applications for the Basic Needs program must be submitted between July 18, 2016 and August 5, 2016. A similar deadline window is anticipated annually.
