Sustainable Jersey is partnering with South Jersey Gas (SJG) and the Alliance to Save Energy (The Alliance) to bring the PowerSave Schools program to 40 schools within the SJG service territory. Eleven (11) schools are returning for another year in the program and 29 additional schools will be admitted for the 2019-20 school year.
PowerSave Schools will directly engage students in the 40 participating schools for one year, integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) principles to promote energy literacy through lesson plans, activities and competitions. Students will use the school building as a learning lab to solve real world problems and generate cultural change by making energy efficiency visible, important and doable.
11 schools are currently funded.
The PowerSave activities are parallel to action items under Sustainable Jersey for Schools, with the opportunity for schools to earn points toward certification while integrating student and staff engagement that results in innovative energy-efficiency projects and ideas for best practices from which other schools can learn.
Eligible applicants are both public and private schools located within the SJG's Service Territory http://www.sustainablejerseyschools.com/fileadmin/media/Grants_and_Resources/Resources/PowerSave_Schools/South_Jersey_Gas_Service_Territory.pdf. Choice priority will be given to schools that are registered with Sustainable Jersey for Schools.
Applications will be accepted until positions are filled to start in Fall of 2019.
29 schools are expected to be chosen to get free support and resources to educate students about energy efficiency and to save money on school energy costs.
