Maddie's Fund is a foundation created in 1994 with the mission of ensuring a healthy home or habitat for all dogs and cats who find themselves in and with shelter and rescue organization each year. Maddie's fund finances innovative solutions and creative thinking. The Fund believes that solutions to the barriers, challenges, and obstacles on the path to a no-kill nation already exist. By collaborating, testing and sharing those solutions we will guarantee all of our country's dogs and cats a healthy home or habitat.
Maddie's Fund currently awards grants in the areas of Education, Innovation, Research, and Incentive Grants.

Research:
Grants are gifted to projects taken on by Maddie's Idea Lab. The Idea Lab supports the development and assessment of innovative ideas that have a high likelihood of advancing lifesaving of dogs and cats, the utilization of foster care for dogs and cats or animal welfare leadership. We encourage ideas that: (1) have the potential to provide simple and inexpensive solutions to problems that some organizations find too costly or too difficult to treat; (2) are easily replicable at other shelter and rescue organizations with varying resources; and (3) save lives and improve welfare of homeless pets. Topics considered for Research grants include, but are not limited to:

Incentive Grants:
Shelter Animals Count Incentive Grant: Shelter Animals Count is a new national organization formed by a diverse group of partners focused on creating and sharing a national database of sheltered animal statistics, providing facts and enabling insights that will help shelters save lives.
Million Cat Challenge Incentive Grant: The Million Cat Challenge was launched in 2014 as a shelter-based campaign to save the lives of one million more cats in North America over the next five years. It focuses on five key initiatives designed to offer every shelter, in every community, practical choices to reduce euthanasia and increase live outcomes for shelter cats.

Award Details
Up to $250,000 is available annually for all grant cycles. Award amounts vary based on program area:
Education - Awards may be up to $5,000.
Innovation - Awards may be up to $5,000.
Research - Awards range from $5,000 to $50,000.
Incentives - Awards range from $500-$1,000.
