Established by the Violence Against Women Act of 1994, the STOP Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Program seeks to develop and implement law enforcement and prosecution strategies to effectively decrease violent crimes against women. These grants also help to develop and enhance services provided to the victims of violent crimes. The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) is interested in supporting the priority areas identified below. In Indiana, the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) is responsible for coordinating VAWA funds with local agencies. Funds through VAWA provide systematic and sustained focus on permanent systems change within the Indiana criminal justice system, while simultaneously developing a comprehensive network of domestic violence and sexual assault victim service advocates and programs throughout Indiana communities.
In 2022, Indiana awarded 51 applicants for a total of $2,971,442.
In 2021, Indiana awarded 53 applicants for a total of $3,068,243.

Completed applications and all required documentation were to be submitted through IntelliGrants no later than 11:59 pm (ET) on July 25, 2023.
ICJI estimates providing approximately 65-75 awards in the amount of $10,000 to $150,000. A 25% funding match is required. If the applicant agency is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization that is recognized by the IRS under section 501(c)3 of Title 26, the match requirement is waived. If the non-profit is providing services in the law enforcement or prosecutor category (e.g., training law enforcement officers), match is required must be provided by the state. The non-profit can voluntarily provide match to meet this requirement on behalf of the state.
Award period for this grant cycle is October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2024.
