    Summary

    The Wisconsin Coastal Management Program (WCMP) supports the management, protection and restoration of Wisconsin's coastal resources, and increases public access to the Great Lakes. Projects must be located in one or more Wisconsin counties adjacent to Lake Superior or Lake Michigan. 


    WCMP Grants are available in five categories:

    • Coastal Wetland Protection and Habitat Restoration
    • ?Nonpoint Source Pollution Control
    • Coastal Resources and Community Planning
    • Great Lakes Education
    • Public Access and Historic Preservation

    Priority will be given to applicants achieving any of the following objectives: 

    • Build partnership alliances with other organizations or agencies
    • Develop exceptional marketing, outreach or education strategies
    • Encourage coast-wide projects
    • Engage underrepresented communities

    Applicants are highly encouraged to contact WCMP staff early to discuss ideas for project proposals and application requirements.

  • Eligibility Details

    Eligible applicants are local units of governments, state agencies, colleges and universities, school districts, regional planning commissions serving coastal areas, tribal units of government and private, nonprofit organizations. Projects must be located in one or more Wisconsin counties adjacent to Lake Superior or Lake Michigan.

    Deadline Details

    Applications were to be submitted by November 2, 2020.  Similar deadlines are anticipated annually.  2022-2023 Request for Proposals will be announced in August of 2021.

    Award Details

    In FY 2021, up to $1,500,000 was available in funding. Award amounts vary based on program area. Projects totaling $60,000 or less require a 50% match. Projects with a total budget larger than $60,000 require a 60% match. Applicants requesting more than $100,000 should contact the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program to discuss their proposal. The project period is 12 months.
