    Summary

Healthy Neighborhoods Preventive Health Cornerstones program will award funding to city or county health departments to establish Healthy Neighborhood Programs that work to improve home environments and reduce residential health hazards. Programs should place an emphasis on reducing residential injuries, childhood lead poisoning, hospitalizations due to asthma, and exposure to indoor air pollutants.

Activities include providing education information, product handouts and referrals for:

    • Indoor air quality
    • Fire safety
    • Injury prevention
    • Tobacco control and smoking cessation
    • Other housing related health hazards that may be identified

    History of Funding

    None is available.

    Additional Information

Since rural areas of New York have a significantly higher fire death rate and a higher concentration of socioeconomically disadvantaged populations, applications from rural city and county health departments are encouraged.
